Here is the final post from DDA Eric Marvin on Vet Con 2013: I returned from Vet Court Con 2013 last week; it was unquestionably the most powerful and valuable conference that I have ever attended. There is no way for me to articulate the depth and intensity of the trauma that some our service men and women sustain while deployed. I am heartened to report that veterans treatment courts (VTCs) are an incredibly successful avenue to successful reintegration for justice involved vets. I was encouraged to hear stories of VTC participants’ growth and accomplishments directly from veterans, judges, defense attorneys and other prosecutors. The conference not only further solidified my belief in the necessity for a Deschutes County VTC, it provided our office insight into the most up-to-date implementation and funding strategies. I would encourage everyone to take some time to learn more about VTCs and their incalculable benefits through the links below. The first is the media page for Justice for Vets, the sponsor of Vet Court Con. The second is one episode in an excellent series of NPR radio segments detailing the reintegration difficulties that justice involved vets experience. http://www.justiceforvets.org/vet-court-con http://www.npr.org/player/v2/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&t=1&islist=false&id=250289588&m=250396539
