On March 9, 2020, 29-year-old Bend resident Danielle Bower was shot by two Bend Police Officers. The location of the shooting was an area off the north side of HW 20 approximately 40 miles east of the city limits of Bend. Ms. Bower and the officers arrived at that location after a pursuit that started at St. Charles Hospital, went through downtown Bend, south on the Bend Parkway, north on Third Street, east on Reed Market Road, north on 15th, and then 40 miles east bound on HW 20.
